Freedom, Independence, Professionalism
A free, independent and professional media environment is fundamental to the process of democracy and sustainable development. If journalists can express themselves and access information freely, if they can operate independently from political forces and without fearing to being censored, and if professional standards are being followed, a democracy can be fostered in a sustainable way.
About the project
The Support to Media in Jordan project aims to help Jordan’s efforts in advancing the Jordanian media to further increase its freedom, independence and professionalism. The three years project (2014 – 2017) is generously funded by the European Union and implemented by the UNESCO Amman office in close collaboration with the Ministry of State for Media Affairs and the media community in Jordan.
Its primary objective is to strengthen an enabling regulatory and institutional environment and to build the capacity for an independent, quality based media sector in Jordan serving the entire population. With this, the project supports Jordan in its efforts to strengthen Jordanian democracy and the possibility for men, women and youth to express themselves and access credible information.
